Educational Programs

Supporting and promoting education is very important to the Angels. They are actively involved in many programs for students, teachers, and schools and proudly reward scholastic efforts in the community.

Angels and Times in Education
Angels Baseball and The Los Angeles Times have teamed up to create Times In Education (TIE), which is an educational program that promotes baseball through curriculum to teachers in Southern California. These teachers use the curriculum to teach and reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, and social studies skills to their students in the classroom. The TIE program is offered to student's grades 1-8 and runs through the fiscal school year (Oct-June). The program has had an enrollment of over 600 schools, totaling approximately 3,500 classrooms, which affected over 137,000 students throughout Southern California.
Angels Scholars
In their continued efforts to support youth education, the Angels have teamed up with the Orange County Office of Education and the AVID Program to form Angels Scholars. Created in 2006, the Angels Scholars program annually awards college scholarships to five academically talented, financially disadvantaged public middle school students in Orange County. The Angels Baseball Foundation will award each Angels Scholar $4,000 (plus accrued interest) upon their acceptance into a four-year college. Every year, the new class of Angels Scholars is recognized during an on-field pre-game ceremony at Angel Stadium.
Adopt-A-School
The Angels kicked off their new Adopt-A-School program in 2007 by adopting five local elementary schools and five local high schools. Angles players, broadcasters, Alumni and the Angels Strike Force visit the elementary schools and spoke to the students about the importance of working hard, reading and staying in school. As a part of the Adopt-A-School program, the Angels Baseball Foundation donates tickets, a $1,000 grant and school supplies to each elementary school. The Foundation donates tickets and $2,500 to each of the five adopted high schools to assist their softball and baseball programs in the areas of equipment, uniforms and field/facility renovation. All schools are honored at a pre-game ceremony during the season. Every year, a new class of ten schools will be "adopted" by the Angels and the Angels Baseball Foundation.
Home Run Readers
This summer, the Angels Baseball Foundation and the Orange County Public Library have launched Home Run Readers at 20 libraries throughout Orange County. This program encourages children to read by providing Angels incentives and visits from the Angels Strike Force. Readers will also receive raffle tickets to enter to win the opportunity to announce "Play Ball!" before an Angels game.
Honoring CIF Students
The Angels annually honor high school students and athletic teams who have earned athletic and scholastic recognition through the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). CIF honors high school athletic teams based on their cumulative grade point average. Individual award recipients must be seniors who have maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average in college-prep courses over the past three years. These students must also have earned a Varsity letter in at least one sport and participated in an additional extracurricular activity. Students are honored on the field during a pregame ceremony and given tickets to enjoy a night of Angels Baseball.
Read Across America Day
Every year on Dr. Seuss' birthday, the Angels join schools across Southern California to celebrate reading during Read Across America Day. In conjunction with the National Education Association's Read Across America event, Angels Alumni, Strike Force and front office staff attended local schools to read aloud in classrooms and share the importance of reading.
Healthcare Programs

Hospital Visits
Throughout the year, the Angels and their wives visit local hospitals to help brighten the days of the patients and their families. Players and coaches make special appearances to distribute Angels items, sign autographs, pose for pictures and visit with the children and their families. The Angels often visit Miller Children's Hospital at Long Beach Memorial, Children's Hospital of Orange County, UCI Medical Center and the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach.
Mother's Day and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation
The Angels are proud to partner with Major League Baseball and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation in their fight against breast cancer. Prior to the home game on Mother's Day, the Angels and representatives from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation honor breast cancer survivors during a pre-game ceremony. Also on Mother's Day, the Angels join teams across MLB in supporting the cause by wearing pink wristbands and pink ribbons on their uniforms. Players will also have the opportunity to use pink bats for day. The bats will later be auctioned off to raise money for this important cause.
Father's Day and the Prostate Cancer Foundation
The Angels and Major League Baseball celebrate the annual Prostate Cancer Foundation Home Run Challenge with a pregame ceremony prior to the game held on Father's Day. The Home Run Challenge takes place the week prior to Father's Day with events scheduled at stadiums across the nation. As a tribute to fathers and the Prostate Cancer Foundation, players, managers, coaches, trainers, umpires and Groundskeepers throughout Major League Baseball wear blue wristbands, uniform decals, blue eye glare and temporary blue ribbon tattoos on Father's Day.

During the Home Run Challenge, each home run hit in 60 selected games leading up to Father's Day raises money to fight prostate cancer. Individuals can make a pledge to the Home Run Challenge by visiting www.prostatecancerfoundation.org or by calling 1-800-798-CURE (2873). Fans can make a monetary pledge for each home run hit during the week's games, including all games played on Father's Day. All money raised throughout the week goes directly toward prostate cancer research.

Brightening Smiles
The Angels Baseball Foundation partners with Children and Families Commission of Orange County and Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County to promote healthy brushing habits. Together, they distributed over 100,000 toothbrushes to all preschool and elementary school children throughout Anaheim and Orange County.
Light the Night
The Angels partner with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society each year to sponsor the Light the Night Walk. This special fundraising event is held at Angel Stadium and is an annual celebration and commemoration of lives touched by cancer. All walkers carry balloons: cancer patients and survivors carry white illuminated balloons, while cancer supporters carry red illuminated balloons. To participate in this year's walk, please visit www.lightthenight.org.
Freeway Series Blood Drive
Every year, the American Red Cross Southern California Blood Services Region joins the Angels and Dodgers' booster clubs for a competitive blood drive. The 2008 Freeway Series Blood Drive collected over 599 units of life-saving blood. As part of a system of sharing blood based on patient need, the American Red Cross Blood Services continues to work closely with other Red Cross blood centers who export blood to help meet patient's needs.
Youth Programs

Angels/MemorialCare Youth Baseball Clinics
This season, the Angels and MemorialCare Medical Centers will host a series of youth baseball clinics throughout Southern California. The aim is to not only teach the proper fundamentals of the game of baseball and softball, but also to demonstrate the fun that can be had while playing. The clinics, held in conjunction with local parks and recreation departments, are free and open to the public. Select Angels players, coaches and Alumni serve as instructors for each clinic. They will also focus on QuickSMART, a Boys & Girls Clubs of America prevention program designed to give kids the skills to make wise choices in their daily lives. The Angels' RBI League, as a partnership of Major League Baseball, Angels Baseball and Boys & Girls Clubs Orange County, provides kids who would otherwise not have the chance, the opportunity to play baseball and softball in an organized league.
Rookie Ball
The Angels Rookie Ball program began in 1992 and is designed to reach children between the ages of four and 13. The Rookie Ball program, run through a partnership with Major League Baseball, emphasizes the basics of the game of baseball. The Angels have partnered with the cities of Anaheim and Riverside to provide the Rookie Ball program to local children. Spreading Holiday Cheer
In early December, members of the Angels Front Office visited the youngsters at the Boys & Girls Club of Anaheim to kick off their holiday season. As has become tradition, the group passed out Angels caps and sat down to decorate Angels stockings, wreaths and paper angels with the children. Afterward, the children were able to take home their decorations and share them with their families.
Aramark Toys for the Children Holiday Luncheon
For over six years, the ARAMARK Chefs at Angel Stadium have hosted a spectacular lunch buffet for Angels fans and staff in the stadium's Knothole Club Restaurant. All diners are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped children's toy valued at $10 or more as their donation for lunch. Over 300 toys were collected and later distributed to local children at the 2007 Angels Children's Holiday Party and to the Salvation Army.
Angels Children's Holiday Party
The Angels Baseball Foundation proudly hosts more than 200 children from 14 local non-profit organizations during its annual Children's Holiday Party at Angel Stadium in December. Angels players, coaches, Alumni and broadcasters help spread holiday cheer by reading The Night Before Christmas to the group and signing autographs. After the story, the children enjoy dinner, holiday crafts and a special visit from Santa. As they leave, each child also receives a special gift donated by Angels' employees and Aramark chefs during the prior week's toy drive.
Angels' Wives
The Angels' wives take an active role in the community throughout the season by contributing their time and effort toward charitable events, organizations, and the Angels Baseball Foundation. Every year, the Angels and Color Me Mine host a paint party for the Angel wives and their children during a home game. Once completed, the children are able to take their pieces home as keepsakes and the wives' plates are signed by their husbands and auctioned off online. All money raised through the plate auction benefits the Angels Baseball Foundation.

Every season, Angel wives and girlfriends build themed baskets, each containing items signed by players and coaches, game used items as well as team merchandise. Fans have the opportunity to help support the Angels Baseball Foundation by bidding on the baskets that feature items from their favorite Angel players and coaches.
